St. Joseph offers three types of procedures.
Gastric Sleeve
Gastric Sleeve is a procedure considered between the gastric bypass and the gastric banding. Attributes of sleeve, more rapid weight loss than band but less than bypass, considered “in between” options. Preserves intestinal anatomy and can easily be converted to either gastric bypass or BPD. Pouch is less likely to enlarge compared to gastric bypass, ability to take meds like ibuprofen. The Sleeve is a restrictive procedure.
Gastric Lap Band
Gastric Lap Band is a restrictive procedure were a silicone band is placed around the upper part of the stomach, a small pouch is created where the stomach holds less food, induces a feeling of satiety. There is a shorter time in OR, overnight hospital stay, you return to work quicker, evaluated every 6-8 weeks for gradual tightening if necessary.
Gastric Bypass
The Gastric Bypass is a combined procedure which includes restriction and malabsorptive.
